Monday Bite :: Reduce Your Plastics
Hey, it’s Monday everywhere. In the spirit of convenience, simplicity, and all that good get-your-week-started-right stuff, let’s take a look at the basics of greening up your life and our world. Whether you are just getting started with green or are setting new goals, it never hurts to brush up.
Surfrider.org program Rise Above Plastics takes aim at keeping our oceans clean. What starts out as land litter eventually migrates to the ocean. These cups, bags, and other plastics get tangled up on marine animals and their habit. They also break down into smaller pieces that animals mistake for food and eat. Obviously this pollution is detrimental to our planet and the animals that inhabit it.
I admit, I often forget my reusable bags when grocery shopping and need to make a greater effort to bring them along. The photos on the Rise Above Plastics Facebook page make me feel pretty awful about being lazy on this super simple task. And while I usually make my coffee at home, occasionally I will grab one while out, usually at the grocery store where I pick up the plastic bags. For Mother’s Day my family gave me a reusable (BPA free) cup to take along with me to the coffee shop. Two easy changes that make a big difference.
So get your week off to a good start, take a minute and read this list of 11 Simple Ways To Save The Ocean From Turning Into Plastic Soup. And remember, this isn’t about a guilt trip. Sometimes we all need a reminder.
