30 Day Challenge: Going No ‘Poo and Plastics In Your Bathroom

I’ve been no ‘poo for a little over two weeks now and I already know that I’m not going back. On top of how cost effective and easy it is, the chemicals found in cosmetic products is reason enough to make the switch. Looking in my shower and beauty cabinet, though, I realize another way that going no ‘poo will make an impact.

Plastics are everywhere! I suppose I was always aware of how much plastic is used in packaging, maybe I just never opened my eyes wide enough. The average person goes through one shampoo bottle every 3 months. Add more for multiple person households, long hair, and conditioner. You see how the plastic can add up! Even if you recycle all of your bottles, which is fantastic, it would be nice to keep so much plastic out of circulation. Making your no ‘poo concoctions in glass bottles are a great way to keep plastics out of the dumps and landfills. Better yet, if you’re using the last of your shampoo and conditioner then trying out the no ‘poo method, rinse the bottles well and use those for your natural hair routine.

Take Part has a simple and powerful video showing just how much plastic we use every single day in America. Some of the figures and facts are startling, at least to me. Sometimes it can feel almost impossible to eliminate plastics from our lives. Life Less Plastic is a great blog dedicated to one person’s journey on trying to eliminate plastics from all facets of their life. There are fantastic tips and how-to’s to get you started. I’m taking my plastics journey room by room, starting with the bathroom.

Have you been able to eliminate a lot of plastic use from your life? What ways have you been able to eliminate them from your bath and beauty routines? I would love to hear about your plastic journey and struggles and your ideas and tips.
