Recycled Military Jackets from Burning Torch

A fresh new take on the military look is having a very strong moment, as seen on the runways of Paris, Milan, and New York this season. However, Burning Torch has been doing gorgeous recycled military surplus for years now. The white jacket above is made from surplus “snow camo.” It’s from their Spring 2010 collection in stores soon. I think it would look fabulous with the Killspencer bags we featured last month.

In stores now you might still be able to pick up my favorite bracelet, handmade from cuffs of military jackets and vintage jewelry. I wear mine constantly. Burning Torch’s recycled military surplus pieces do a great job of taking something very casual and making it feminine, without feeling like overkill. It’s that subtle femininity with rough edges that’s so cool right now. Plus they’re all made right here in Los Angeles, which helps lower their environmental impact even more. And if you’re feeling inspired to rework that old army jacket that’s been collecting dust in the back of your closet, check out this article from Crafting a Green World for inspiration!

What a creative idea to make military items into beautiful items, like the jewelry belt you posted. Great imagination on the part of the designer, thanks
