The holidays are creeping up fast, Thanksgiving is right around the corner. Many are busy planning what they are going to cook, what they are going to wear…and everyone’s thinking about gifts they are going to give.
One thing you may not have considered is your serving dishes or your table settings. Do they match, do you have enough? If you’re like me the once complete matching set has been reduced to bits and pieces over the years as things get dropped, broken and lost. I’m lucky to have a complete set of dishes for 6…and matching serving bowls… forget it. Good thing I’m not planning any large, fancy get togethers this season, but that could all change with a phone call, email, or spur of the moment idea.
This year I plan to give the holidays a green makeover, that includes my kitchenware and accessories. I think it’s important to celebrate the holidays in sustainable style.
So I’ve been shopping around just to see what’s available. Everybody has bamboo, especially a lot of the basics in bamboo, which I already have…a big bamboo salad bowl, a whole set of bamboo kitchen utensils…I want something new, something different, yet still sustainable…and stylish.
I found Time Well Spent Gifts in Canada. Being a Michigander, Canada is my next door neighbor. Anyway, they have a whole section of green shopping items, several of which are fantastic and sustainable Rubberwood items. Time Well Spent has these Rubberwood serving bowls, matching salad tongs, pillar candle holders and a beautiful serving tray. I see most of the items in red, some in daiquiri green, and some in turquoise blue. I love, love, love the red.
Time Well Spent Gifts has several other uniquely green dinner party accessories as well, including beautiful plates made from recycled glass (love the apple green ones), votive candle holders made from recycled glass, and soy candles.
I love that more and more places are making it easier than ever to make sustainable choices. Sure some of my purchases this year will still be traditional items and popular toys but I know, like many others, more of my choices this year will be greener than ever before. That is because more stores like Time Well Spent are adding green items to their inventory.
Last year I could not have walked into Meijer, Wal-Mart or K-Mart and found many eco-friendly gift options. This year I can.
