PCRM Animal Testing Video Spotlights Industry Evils

We know animal testing sucks. It is cruel and, often, inaccurate.

Every day items, like food, cosmetics, and household cleaners, are routinely tested for safety on animals. These tests are cruel, leaving these animals with injuries to their eyes, skin and organs, and often resulting in their death. And remember, we are not just talking about lab rats here.

Not only are these tests expensive (sometimes in the millions of dollars for one test) and time consuming (sometimes taking 3+ years to complete), but inaccurate. Animals are much smaller than humans and are given much higher doses of whatever ingredient than a human would ingest or apply. Plus, animals are not humans and the effects could be very different.

So why is the practice still widely used when we now have less expensive, more accurate, and faster testing methods that do not use animals?

Like many other nasty things in society, animal testing is business. This means there are many people profiting from this cruel practice.

The Solution? We consumers must demand modern testing methods. The best way to do this is by purchasing products that are cruelty free – both product and ingredients have not been tested on animals.

Watch the animated video by PCRM.org above for a simple yet info-packed look at the animal testing industry’s flaws and why we should all work toward newer methods of testing.
