Not only will peppermint put you in the holiday spirit, but it’s chock full of goodness for your body and soul. Explore the health benefits of peppermint with these tips and tricks.
Peppermint is one of my favorite flavors. I love it combined with chocolate (YES) or in my tea. I use it for everything, from a delicious homemade lip balm scent and flavor to a tummy-settler. Peppermint naturally soothes the digestive system and liver and may also help improve concentration and focus. Explore the health benefits of peppermint by incorporating a little more into your daily life.
1) Daily ailments.
The health benefits of using a little bit of peppermint on the regular are varied. Because of peppermint’s calming effects (which are also a little numbing), peppermint essential oil is a really easy and natural way to soothe a headache. Place a little oil on your fingertip and gently dab along your hairline. Try to follow your peppermint treatment with a little physical relaxation (preferably a short nap) or some meditation. Drink some peppermint tea for digestive troubles or to soothe congestion. Menthol, the active ingredient in peppermint, is commonly used to combat colds.
Peppermint is a wonderful addition to snacks and drinks. It’s sharp, refreshing flavor pairs naturally with chocolate, and with milder, sweet flavors as well. It is also lovely in your favorite cocktail. Peppermint itself is actually a natural hybrid of water mint and spearmint.
3) Body products.
As I’ve mentioned before Dr. Bronner’s peppermint liquid castile soap is a real pick-me-up for me. I use it most mornings (it typically doubles as my shampoo) and it really helps me feel perked up and ready for the day. Adding peppermint essential oil to your lip balm does double-duty, making your product nice and soothing, while helping to create the illusion of freshened breath. You can also add a tiny bit of peppermint essential oil to your body scrub or follow Becky’s tutorial for adding custom scents to your deodorant.
While it’s a bit of a seasonal favorite, the health benefits of peppermint are myriad. Use a little in your treats, tea, or fave body product today!
