The only thing better than sustainable development and eco fashion? Eco fashion designers working to support sustainable development. Thanks to Clairvoyant Marketing Agency, Origin Africa and In the Bag – this is exactly the kind of designer that this year’s Hub of Africa Fashion Week is highlighting on the Ethiopian runway.
During the week of April 24rd-27th, Clairvoyant Marketing Agency, Origin Africa and In the Bag will be presenting up and coming designers from Ethiopia, Nigeria, Mozambique, Angola, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, Somalia, and Tanzania with the theme, “Unite the Fashion Industry for Sustainable Development.” The events will take place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Participating designers are required to create a line emphasizing sustainable development and eco fashion. Awards given out at the show will include the opportunity to participate in Africa Fashion Week New York, or Ethical Fashion Week, in Paris.
According to Hub of Africa’s site, the week’s sponsors desire to take a stand, “recognizing that poverty and economic instability could be a huge distress in the continent if various measures are not taken into consideration.”
The site continues on to explain that one of the week’s main objectives will be to unite the provide a platform promoting trade development and environmental fashion through featuring designers and industry individuals in Africa that, together, will create a new platform for a cleaner future.
According to The Africa Report, the organizers have communicated that, “The show sends a powerful message to the rest of the world that the African fashion industry is open and ready for business – and that it can do this business differently – sustainably.”
