5 Natural Beauty Uses for Coconut Oil

natural beauty uses for coconut oil

Think coconut is just for making curries and pina coladas? There are lots of natural beauty uses for coconut oil!

Coconut oil is pretty common in whole foods cooking. From frying to lightening your coffee, coconut oil is a kitchen staple for many vegan and healthy cooks. It turns out that coconut oil can go beyond the kitchen and become part of your natural beauty regimen!

One of the properties that makes coconut oil so useful in beauty recipes is that it’s solid at room temperature.  That makes it a perfect base for masks, creams, and lotions. It also contains a mixture of fats and natural acids that make it a great addition to your hair- and skin-care routine.

Coconut oil is becoming more common at grocery stores, but if you can’t find it on store shelves, you can order it online. Nine dollars a tub might sound pricey for an oil, but a little coconut oil goes a long way.

One thing to look out for when you’re shopping for coconut oil: coconut manna. Coconut manna is delicious in smoothies, baking, and cooking. It will work in natural beauty recipes too, but it has slightly different properties from regular coconut oil. The main difference is that it stays solid up to a higher temperature, which can affect the texture of your final product. I’ve used coconut manna in place of coconut oil, and adding in a secondary oil, like olive oil, to thin it out can help.
