Whether you’re recovering from a strenuous workout or are just feeling a little bit stressed out, there’s nothing like soaking in a tub full of hot water and epsom salts!
I know, baths are a huge waste of water, and I’m not saying you should take a bath every day. From time to time, though, a salty soak is just the thing to melt away muscle soreness and anxiety. Treat yourself, right? But what are epsom salts, and how do you use them?
Epsom salts are naturally occurring salts, also called magnesium sulfate. Like table salt, epsom salt is mined. In fact, there’s a somewhat famous epsom salt mine in Death Valley that you can ride a monorail right through!
How to Use Epsom Salts
You can use Epsom salts a couple of different ways:
- In a compress. Soak a washcloth or small towel in warm water mixed with epsom salts, and apply the compress to your aching muscles.
- In the tub. Pour about 1/2 to 1 cup of epsom salts into the tub, fill ‘er up with hot water, and soak away! You can also add a few drops of your favorite relaxing essential oil, if you’re trying to ease anxiety.
Do you guys use epsom salts for fighting stress or soothing sore muscles? What’s your favorite way to use them?
