In response to the latest body positivity article, I was forwarded a video of Caroline Pover giving a TED Talk on positive body image. I think she hits on a very important, and sometimes not talked about, aspect of body positivity and loving your body: sex.
How we feel about our bodies, and especially how we feel about them naked, can directly influence our intimate relationships. Truly loving our bodies for what they are, and how amazing they are, will only serve to enhance our sex lives-with or without a partner!
I love that in the talk she expressed that it shouldn’t be about body acceptance but body LOVE. The ties that she draws from loving her body and her openness about her sexuality is amazing. Something I also drew from the talk is that with her openness about sexuality and her body love, she’s able to spread that to those around her. She’s the go to “Aunt” when her friend’s kids or others want to talk to her about bodies and sex. When you find the power within yourself to truly love your body and who you are, it’s an amazing gift to share that with others and hopefully, in turn, make them feel that way too. Give the video a watch and tell me you won’t want to grab your bum and say “I love my bum!”
Let’s keep the body positivity talk going: I would love some comments from our readers about the things that they love about their body-feel free to leave as many comments and input as you’d like. The more the better!
