If there is one thing you can do to green your hair care routine this summer it has to be a hair oil. You know how all of that sun, surf and chlorine damages strands? Well, nothing renews, strengthens and hydrates summer hair like a healthy hair oil.
Conventional strengtheners, smoothers and de-frizzers are made with synthetic silicones, alcohol and other harsh ingredients which may make your hair seem healthier temporarily, but are actually drying in the long run. Natural oils add moisture and help to protect strands, giving hair a sleeker look, adding softness and even revving up body.
My favorite summer hair oils:
I have been using Yarok lately, made with Avocado and Apricot Kernel oils, plus Yarrow oil, thought to promote hair growth. Directions say to add three droppers to hair before shampooing, but I have been adding a few drops to ends of clean, wet hair. Really snaps sapped locks back into shape.
Gorgeous Hair Rejuvnating Oil by Etsy seller Skin Apotheke is an Ayurvedic hair treatment that reaps incredible results. Made with Amla and Brahmi oils, used in India for centuries. It may not smell good, but it sure does help out dry, damaged, summer hair.
For dry hair treatment on the cheap, grab yourself a bottle of avocado oil and use straight on hair pre-shampoo. Massage a small amount into hair and leave for 15 minutes before washing.
And don’t forget good ol’ Argan oil…
