Ava Anderson Non Toxic Mineral Sunscreen

In Best Natural Sunscreens of 2012 I reviewed a few new mineral sunscreens and covered some old favorites.  Since then I have continued to sample new sunscreens, one of which I will fill you in on today.

Jean commented on my post about Ava Anderson Non Toxic Sunscreens, which I had not yet heard of.  Of course, I had to try them out.  These products are made completely with healthy ingredients and perform like a dream.

Ava Anderson does not stop at making great mineral sunscreen.  This nontoxic brand also carries skin care, body care, make up, scent, baby care, and products for the home.  I had the chance to sample the Baby Wash and Baby Lotion – gentle with a fresh, light scent, and the All Purpose Glass Cleanerfor home with microfiber cloth – which I love and, since I had my own home cleaning business for several years, that is saying something.  Jean tells me that the Barrier Cream is “amazing for eczema, rosacia, poison ivy, you name it!”  I love it when products are multi-purpose like that.

Back to the sunscreen review, you will notice I added a new category (an important one at that)…Price:

Ava Anderson 30+ SPF

  • Protection:  SPF 30+, UVA/UVB Broad Spectrum
  • Water resistance:  Water resistant, apply every two hours
  • Safety:  Non-nano particle zinc oxide, free from harmful ingredients
  • For use by:  Whole family over 6 months of age
  • Feel:  Not non-greasy, you can feel this one on the skin but it is definitely not the grease-slick of mineral sunscreens from the past.
  • Look:  Slight white cast on application, less so if the product is rubbed in thoroughly.  Remember my application tip:  Use small amounts and rub in thoroughly to cut down on whiteness.
  • Scent:  Unscented
  • Price:  $18.95

Ava Anderson Daily Moisturizer with SPF

  • Protection:  SPF 15, UVA/UVB Broad Spectrum
  • Water resistance:  Not water resistant, apply every two hours or after swimming, sweating, etc
  • Safety:  Non-nano particle zinc oxide, free from harmful ingredients
  • For use by:  Great daily moisturizer with UV protection, plus some truly good-for-skin ingredients, like rosehip oil and neem extract.
  • Feel:  Moisturizing without being heavy, leaves skin soft and smooth.
  • Look:  Goes on clear
  • Scent:  Unscented
  • Price:  $20.95

Ava Anderson Lip Balm with SPF 15

  • Protection:  SPF 15, UVA/UVB Broad Spectrum
  • Water resistance:  Not water resistant.  Water resistant lip balm could be pretty weird, right?
  • Safety:  Non-nano particle zinc oxide, free from harmful ingredients.  Made with olive oil, cocoa butter and shea butter.  Love!
  • For use by:  A sexy pout is one thing, big burned lips another.  May be used by the whole family.
  • Feel:  I’ve been using it all the time because I love the feel, no lip burn is just a perk.  Made with olive oil, cocoa butter and shea butter.  Love!
  • Look:  Nice shine because this stuff is smooth, not waxy.
  • Scent:  Or in this case, flavor.  Lemon!  This smoothing, softening balm is the perfect daily lip treatment.
  • Price:  $15.95

Ava Anderson is a winner in nontoxic, performance and like-ability.  Plus, they received Entrepreneur Magazine’s Entrepreneur of 2011 Award.  Stay tuned for more of my sunscreen reviews in weeks ahead and please let me know if you have any questions on purchasing, ingredients or anything else.

  1. This is an amazing sunscreen. All of the avaSUN products are made from the best quality ingredients. I use all of the Ava Anderson Non-Toxic products. They are far superior to anything else I have ever used. I am so proud to be apart of this company and help educate about the dangers of the toxins in everyday products. Not only do we get to spread the message, but, we are able to provide quality products that are safe for the entire family, and safe for the planet.

  2. I love the zero toxic mission with Ava but unfortunately I couldn’t use their skin care products for some reason but the sunscreen is really nice :).

  3. I love all of Ava’s products! I’m especially thankful for the work she’s done on her sun products. By far the safest on the market and they work great too. You should ask her to be a guest blogger. She really knows her stuff!
