Parabens & Breast Cancer, A New Study

More information on parabens and their relationship to breast cancer has recently surfaced.  Natural News reported earlier this week on an extensive study done by the University of Reading in the UK.

The study was done on 40 women who underwent mastectomies for breast cancer from 2005 to 2008.   Samples taken show 99% to contain at least one type of paraben.  60% containing at least five types of the synthetic preservative.

While this does not tell us that parabens cause cancer, it does beckon further investigation.  Parabens are thought to possibly cause accerlated tumor growth because of their estrogenic qualities.

The Environmental Working Group (EWG) has published research linking parabens to organ system toxicity, reproductive and fertility issues, birth and developmental defects, and endocrine disruption.

It is important to purchase cosmetic and personal care products made without the use of synthetic preservatives, and choose foods that are minimally processed.  For a refresher on parabens and their many synonyms check out Parabens — What You Need to Know.

  • With almost all samples containing parabens, that should be more than enough evidence that more testing should be done, especially if they are thought to possibly accelerate tumor growth! I had a biopsy in my early 20s and that was very scary to go through. To think that the products I was using could possibly affect that is horrifying.

I hate that parabens are everywhere.. I just noticed that some hand wipes I bought a while ago contained methylparaben, so I tossed it out. Ugh!
