What is the best way to create a long lasting healthy habit? Get started young.
There are so many cosmetics marketed to young girls these days. Lipgloss, body lotion, skin care. And the vast majority is chock full of toxic junk, all wrapped up in a pretty package so they appeal to tweens and teens.
We adults need to make sure what we are purchasing for our daughters to use is safe and nontoxic. And yes, it also has to be effective and an attractive label doesn’t hurt.
That is why I was excited when Kim from Good For You Girls contacted me about her line of skincare for young ladies. She sent over a 3 Step Starter Kit for my 11 year old daughter to try. (Read on for a Feelgood Style discount!)
The packaging is cute, pink and purple with flowers, so we were off to a good start. I loved the kit because it was super straight forward – cleanser, toner, moisturizer. Enough to keep a girl interested in using daily without being overwhelming. Just the stuff we need.
My daughter is fairly good about washing her face each night, but having her very own products to use makes this task more tempting. The first thing she did with the kit was open up the moisturizer to see what it smelled like. Nothing. Good!, was her response. This little line is fragrance free and super gentle. She also likes the toner. In her opinion, it makes her skin feel extra clean.
I like it because it is all natural and toxin free. And if she will use it, I will buy it. The line also includes facial cleansing pads, body wash, body lotion, and deodorant. Even the ever popular lip balm. It also looks like you can find the brand at some Whole Foods stores.
You may be wondering…do young girls really need a skincare system? In my opinion, yes! It is never too late to get our girls in the practice of taking care of their skin.
Here are my healthy skin tips for tweens + teens:
Wash and moisturize daily with gentle, nontoxic products.
Keep your hands off of your face. (My Mom always preached this to me, and I still do too)
No squeezing unless absolutely necessary. Unless a pimple is white and needs to go, squeezing will only lead to a big red, sore bump. The bump then turns into a scab that lasts longer than any zit would have. If you have to pop, do so gently, apply a dab of toner, and then leave. it. alone.
I highly recommend Good For You Girls skincare. But, more importantly, my daughter recommends it too. Receive 20% off your order now through May 17th, 2014 with code feelgood at Good For You Girls.com.
