Since it’s Friday, and many of us have a three day weekend coming up, let’s try something fun…
I’ve noticed lots of bloggers since the beginning of the year have taken on a fast. Some are quitting coffee, dessert or meat for 21 days. Others have turned off the TV for a week. Whatever it may be, it is always kind of fun to challenge yourself.
When omitting or changing a lifestyle element, days and weeks can seem like a long time. A weekend seems much more do-able. Small 2 or 3 day challenges keep you expanding, growing and trying out new stuff without that overwhelmed feeling.
Rather than taking something away, it might be more fun to add in a new and beneficial element to your life. This week I thought we’d take a look at meditation. Have you tried it? If you immediately think of long, boring sessions of shut-eyed om-ing, think again. Meditation can be as simple as being in the moment of what you are doing – even if that is packing lunches or folding laundry. Yep, meditation is about awareness.
Why meditate? The regular practice of centering on your awareness brings clarity of mind, improves intuition and creativity, gets rid of the repetitive thoughts that tend to swirl in the mind, and relieves stress.
Need some motivation? Here is a guided meditation to get you started. Monica Bloom offers straightforward meditation tips with So Hum. Or maybe you’d like to extend this meditation experiment beyond the weekend and go for Deepak Chopra’s 21 Day Meditation Challenge.
What other challenges have you been wanting to take on but are intimidated, time crunched, or just don’t know where to begin? These weekend challenges can be fun, rewarding, and may even create a lasting lifestyle change. Let us know what you’ve been thinking of trying and maybe we will try it together.
