Solar Vintage Collection from the “Lost Values” Boutique

I am awe struck by the “Solar Vintage Collection”  by Lost Values, which consists of solar charged light inventions transformed creatively into traditional hand crafted fashion accessories.

The Solar Vintage Brooch is charged when worn in the sun, and in the evening it enchantingly becomes a subtle, ambient light.

BeautyScoop: The Edible Beauty Product

BeautyScoopBeautyScoop is the edible beauty product many are raving about. I tried a few samples and they weren’t bad. The concept is believable. You eat the essential nutrients for maximum health and beauty benefits.

I mixed a packet of BeautyScoop into my smoothies for a couple days and it was wonderful. I had more energy and I felt better. I think I would have to try more than two days worth for an overall determination if it really works as well as it claims. Read the rest of this entry »

Nowali Moccasins Now In Adult Sizes

Nowali MoccasinsI was hit with a nostalgic trip down memory lane when I opened up this pack of Nowali Moccasins. I had a couple pairs of these when I was a kid. I don’t know if they were actually Nowali’s or cheap imitations but I had these fun, warm and wonderful slipper sock moccasins as a kid. Now I am thrilled to have an adult size pair to warm my feet on cold nights (and days). Read the rest of this entry »

Fun with Yoga: OLovesM!

Each year it seems more creative entrepreneurial types are coming up with new, irresistable ways to create gorgeous, durable bags with minimal impact on the environment. My latest discovery is OLovesM, a no-waste company that uses materials otherwise destined to take up landfill space.

Their material of choice? Yoga mats. Read the rest of this entry »

The Leakey Collection: Zulu Grass Jewelry

Zulugrass strands of necklacesZulugrass jewelry is handcrafted jewelry created by Maasai women out of environmentally sustainable grass grown in the Kenya area. The results are beautiful, stylish, sustainable and fashionable jewelry that can be worn in a variety of ways.

The Leakey Collection has created over 1200 jobs and over 10,000 people are supported by the efforts of the Leakey Collection.

The stretchy bands of grass can be worn in a multitude of ways, as necklaces, bracelets, hair ties, anklets, arm bands, or even around your waist. They come in over 200 colors and look very fun to play with and wear in new and creative ways. What gets me is that they are made from grass. Grass! That is so green...

The Maasai people live in the Rift Valley in the areas of Kenya and Tanzania. In 2001 a drought almost destroyed everything. Philip and Katy Leakey who live among the Maasai created contemporary products using sustainable materials in the area, they decided to help the people of the area by offering them jobs using their own skills and traditional ways of beading to create beautiful and sustainable jewelry in non factory settings that span over 150 miles in Rift valley area.

Over 1000 Maasai women now help create Zulugrass and Zuluwood products sold through The Leakey Collection.

Surfer-tested Eco Splaff Flopps

It was 1997 when Splaff Flopps joined the green wave, — and in more ways than one! El Presidente Cliff Drill and El Ambassador Craig Wallace got creative in a garage. Their materials and tools were a tire, a bike tube, and a shoe knife. Indeed they had a vision. The goal was to make durable, comfortable and reasonably-priced sandals from recycled materials. Nature of Beauty + Ecotique = Eco-friendly Shop-o-rama

I’m a big believer in the power of collaboration. After all, most of us are pretty talented in certain areas yet equally lame (or more so) in others. My most visible skill deficit rears its ugly head whenever it’s time to dress myself. I just don’t have an eye for fashion. However, Stephanie Green, owner of eco-friendly St. Paul shop Ecotique, most certainly does. So it made all the sense in the world for The Nature of Beauty to pair up with Ecotique in order to offer the ecoconscious consumer a one-stop, head-to-toe, fashion forward shopping experience. It’s like the Mall of America but without, well, everything in the Mall of America. But you get the idea. Read the rest of this entry »
