Mineral Sunsreen, Don’t Put It Away Yet

This time of year, when weather seems more fall than summer, we tend to forget our sunscreen.  Bright red noses from a weekend spent outside is our family’s proof.

Don’t forget to protect the kids (and yourselves) from late summer sunburn.  Check out this reader q & a from Organic Beauty Source for the best on mineral sunscreen for kids:

I would love to hear more about a great daily sunscreen for little ones that isn’t so thick or white from the zinc!

Let me tell you straight up, mineral sunscreens are all going to be a bit different feel than the chemical variety.  Zinc naturally leaves behind a white coating.  But natural sunscreen manufacturers have come a long way in making their products lighter, less greasy, and even transparent.

When we first went mineral my kids really disliked the sunscreens.  REALLY DISLIKED!  Like, I had to talk them into getting the sunscreen applied.  And I wasn’t a huge fan either.  Not only was it greasy and white, but so were our bathing suits, clothes, car seats, doors, kitchen cabinets…anything that came into contact with their slathered little bods.

After several years of experimenting with lots and lots of mineral sunscreens, there is one that stands out as the favorite in our house.  And that one is Erbaviva SPF 15 Sunscreen.

This one goes on smooth, clear and non-greasy. The Trifecta!  It does feel slightly tacky (just slightly, though) on the skin.  We have become accustomed to the body lotion feel of sunscreen from our youthful days spent with Coppertone, so the feel may take a little getting used to.  But really, this one is by far the favorite.

The only problem?  It comes in such a small tube.
