Last November, I shared the industry influence behind David Tlale’s comment that, “Africa plays a major role–directly or indirectly– in fashion.” From hints of the continent in trends at Burberry, Missoni, Tory Burch, Thakoon and SUNO to collections from the likes of KikoRomeo, Sheaffa Delince and Mesenga Fashion House, textiles like Batik, Ankara, Kente and Kanga are making their statement in the international fashion scene.

I listed several retailers curating shops and online boutiques featuring collections from African designers. Included among them was Sapellé, a London based online shop bringing to a global clientele a range of clothing and accessories with the common theme inspired by Africa and fit for the world.

Founder Daphne Kasambala has a knack for remaining relevant in European fashion while maintaining socially responsible practices and championing her partners’ fair pay, ethical and fair trade ethos.

You lucky Londoners, you! She’s about to set up a pop up shop April 16th – 28th at Eland House.

Here are the details:

When: April 16th-28th, 2013. 8 AM – 8 PM Mon-Sat, 11 AM – 4 PM Sun

Where: Eland House, Bressenden Pl, Westminser, London, SW1e 5DU

Contact: info@sapelle.com

Info: Be the first to see the shop’s new Summer range featuring contemporary design labels from over 15 different African countries. RSVP to the facebook event for news and special offers for this event

Photo: Mesenga Fashion House, AFWNY 2012.
