We got caught up a bit and talked about an article I\u2019d written for our local daily newspaper about a few simple eco-resolutions we could consider for the New Year, which led to a discussion on strategies for succeeding with them! Check out Green Diva Lisa\u2019s great and thorough post on\u00a0<em><strong><a title=\"simple strategies for success with green new years intentions\" href=\"http:\/\/thegreendivas.com\/2012\/01\/09\/simple-strategies-for-success-with-your-new-years-intentions\/\" target=\"_blank\">ways to succeed with whatever intentions you have for the New Year<\/a><\/strong><\/em>. Here is an excerpt with just a FEW ideas in one of several categories \u2013 De-Cluttering (fun):<\/p>\n<p><strong>Un-Clutter Your World<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 don\u2019t try to unclutter the entire house, start with a drawer, or a closet. Approach each closet or drawer by emptying it out completely. \u00a0 My motto when de-cluttering is \u201cbless it and let it go.\u201d<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em>Cleaning out the closet:\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>When in your clothes closet, if you haven\u2019t worn it in a year, let it go. \u00a0Donate your clothes, someone else might love them or need them.<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>De-cluttering the kitchen:\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>Start off by pulling everything our of the drawer or cabinet you are cleaning. \u00a0If you haven\u2019t used some of the gadgets you\u2019ve collected, let them go. Do you really need 4 spatulas or 3 can openers. When you put things back, place the least used things at the back and the most used within easy reach. \u00a0Then next year, if you find you never used those things in the back, maybe you could bless them and let them go as well.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div><!--more--><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em>Organizing and storing:\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>For the things you need to save but are not using, box or bin them up so you can store them neatly and find them easily. Mark them and make them easy to negotiate when storing them. I make a list on two sides of each box in case I need to store them facing our or sideways.<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Passing things down:\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>When I last moved I boxed stuff up for my kids. Saving things that I don\u2019t really use now that they will enjoy using that I can offer as meaningful gifts along the way. DARN, now it\u2019s recorded for evidence \u2013 I got caught up in all the talk about de-cluttering and some of her inspiring ideas for getting ready for winter nesting, and I kind of made a commitment to de-clutter my house! Too many witnesses. Oh No. Fortunately, I have her book, which does have some great ideas. And, I\u2019ve got Green Diva Lisa in my home\/office every day and she is a de-cluttering task-master, so I guess I\u2019ll be getting busy with that now!
