Have you heard of Mountain Rose Herbs? If you create your own skincare and beauty products you probably have. They are one of the best known and most recommended suppliers of natural ingredients in the US.

While I have often referenced the Mountain Rose Herbs site for ingredient information I have never actually tried any of their products. Until now…

The Classic Essential Oil Sampler was sent my way and we had lots of fun trying out the various oils. I say we because my kids, and even my husband, got in on it.

First we tried out each scent. Just did our own little sniff test to see if we could identify them and which ones we liked the best. My husband snagged the Eucalyptus straight off, my son preferred Rosemary, and my daughter loved Peppermint. And while I have long been in love with the delicate charm of Lavender, Geranium was also one of my favorites.

Ok, aside from smelling delicious, what can you do with essential oils? First of all, essential oils are very potent and can cause skin irritation if used improperly. Essential oil(s) should be dispensed into a base oil before applying to skin. Base oils can be jojoba, sweet almond, apricot kernel, and sesame for starters. I used olive oil. The sampler comes with a little empty bottle with dropper top so that you can add essential oils to your base oil and come up with your own concoction.

My signature scent combo is flowery Lavender and Geranium, with just a little Rosemary for earthy green-ness. I apply a drop to wrists, insides of elbows and knees…wherever. It smells yummy and is completely phthalate, paraben, and petroleum-free.

The essential oils in the Mountain Rose Herbs Classic Sampler are all organic, and the packaging gives details on each oil’s properties and ideas on how to use them. They are perfect for aromatherapy and healing. Use antiseptic Peppermint on insect bites, stings, and pimples. Tea tree works well on acne and athlete’s foot. Use Rosemary to stimulate the mind and soothe sore muscles, sprains, and arthritis. A few drops of Eucalyptus in your morning shower (put near the drain so you don’t slip!) will clear up any congestion and wake you right up. Geranium is relaxing and helps to soothe grayed nerves. And lovely Lavender alleviates stress and anxiety, and also works to fight infection and heal cuts, scrapes, bruises, and bites.

If you are in the market to do some creating of your own Mountain Rose Herbs is your one stop shop for natural ingredients. They give you the low-down on each ingredient (and they have tons) and provide helpful information on how to use them. MRH also carries natural health products, gifts, and containers and packaging for your homemade items.
