""

Last month I reported on a Hyland’s homeopathic gift basket that I had received. Admittedly, I knew very little about homeopathy and was out of my realm. Something else I was not aware of at the time was how many people are in to homeopathy and swear by its results.

The response to the article, and the conviction of the users of homeopathic treatments, spurred me on to learn more on this subject. I also tried some more products from Hyland’s, more specific to my personal ailments, and will fill you in on that too.

But let’s start off with the science of homeopathy. In my first article I stated that I could not find much information on homeopathy. What I did find was mostly inconclusive as to the results of these treatments. More than one even declared them nothing more than placebos.

You can see by reading the comments from that article how passionate some are about homeopathy and its remedies. And, of course, others dismiss it completely. Since then I have received a lot of information on the subject, and it definitely is one that you need to investigate prior to using. A simple search may bring up a small amount of vague information, but those who truly understand and use this method are very well informed.

I have been in correspondence with someone who has used homeopathic treatments her “entire life” with great success. This person even states that homeopathic alternative therapies helped where medical doctors thought recovery from an accident was impossible. As to my earlier statement on finding little available research on homeopathy, my source provided me with these links to better information:

Alternative Therapies: Homeopathic Resources and Information

Once study shows that the placebo effect in homeopathy is no greater than in conventional medicine. Another study suggests that since homeopathy works in animals, it can not be a placebo.

Well, personal experience is always the best measure. Since I deal with chronic headaches and neck pain, the good people at Hyland’s sent me out Headache and Migraine formulas, as well as Nerve Tonic. I take ibuprofen for the neck pain and have a prescription for the migraines, but swore off the ibuprofen for the week. I really am not comfortable taking as much ibuprofen as I do, but have tried many things and it is the one that works.

Let me just state here, before anyone suggests I get my neck and head checked out, that I have had this issue since childhood and the pain is due to stress. Massage, stretching, yoga, and other forms of stress management do help some but not completely. The first day this week with neck pain I tried the Hyland’s Headache formula. It is said to work on head pain that may extend to the base of the neck. Bingo! But…it did not provide relief. I had a busy day, and downed a couple of acetaminophen an hour or so later and went about my business.

The next day the neck and head pain was back and I figured I would have to let it turn in to a migraine so that I could just take the prescription medication and be done with it. Why not give the Hyland’s a shot first? This time I tried the Nerve Tonic, thinking that since the pain is due to stress maybe it would help. And guess what? It did!

The Nerve Tonic took away my neck tension and headache so subtly that I didn’t even have that “ahhh” moment of relief I get with ibuprofen (if you get headaches, you know what I am talking about), but noticed later on in the day that it was gone. And it has been gone since then, going on three days now. I am truly amazed. Nothing I have tried has ever taken it away for longer than the medication lasts.

On the Hyland’s insert it says this:

Homeopathy is a natural approach to medicine that is thought to work by stimulating the body to safely heal itself. Homeopathic medicines don’t suppress the symptoms of an illness, but rather stimulate the body’s own healing mechanism.

Stimulating the body’s own healing mechanism. That sure sounds a lot healthier than numbing the symptoms, don’t you think? These alternative remedies are safe, but I am no doctor and would definitely recommend you ask yours if you have concerns before trying anything new.

The box of Hyland’s Migraine is as yet unopened. I did not need it. But you can be sure that when I do I will give it a try.
