"spring

Even though it doesn’t feel like it for some of us, spring is right around the corner. We’ll soon be swapping out bundled winter gear for a more revealing spring and summer wardrobe. To get your skin refreshed and ready, exfoliating is key. Ridding your skin of dry skin cells helps reveal the smooth and glowing skin underneath. Here are five natural exfoliators you can use to get your skin prepared for the warmer months ahead.

1. Coffee

Coffee is a wonderful natural exfoliator. Some also say the caffeine content of coffee will temporarily plump up your skin and give it a more youthful appearance. To exfoliate, simply scrub your body with used coffee grounds from your morning coffee. If you have sensitive skin, avoid the face area and always test to see if the grind is too coarse. Coffee ground for french press may be too rough for delicate skin, but you can always use it to exfoliate your feet instead! Also, place a strainer or piece of cheese cloth on your shower drain when you rinse off so the grounds don’t clog your pipes.

Next >> Sugar

2. Sugar

There are a lot of sugar scrubs on shelves today that contain tons of chemicals and harsh ingredients that do nothing good for your skin. You can easily make your own sugar scrub, just follow one of these recipes found on Care2. The great thing about making simple beauty products at home is that you can customize it to suit your skin type and scent preferences.

Next >> Baking Soda

"baking

3. Baking Soda

Baking soda is a wonder ingredient in the bathroom. Simply mix 3 parts baking soda to 1 part water to create an exfoliating paste. Gently rub over your body in a circular motion and you’ll have baby soft skin. Since baking soda is so gentle it also makes a wonderful facial exfoliant. I like to add some baking soda to my face wash about twice a week to get rid of the dry skin on my face.

Next >> Oatmeal

"oatmeal"

4. Oatmeal

Over on Easy Homemade Recipes, there is a great recipe for an oatmeal and almond body scrub. Oatmeal is a very gentle exfoliant so this makes it perfect for very sensitive skin.

Next >> Cornmeal

"cornmeal"

5. Cornmeal

This video, found on Live Strong, shows us how to create a cornmeal exfoliating facial scrub. This recipe easily translates to a body scrub, you’ll just have to double or triple the recipe. The use of yogurt also makes this recipe extra moisturizing.

Once you’ve exfoliated, be sure to apply a lotion or body oil to keep your skin moisturized and glowing. Do you use any natural exfoliators? What are some of your favorite recipes and ingredients? I would love to hear your recipes and ideas so feel free to leave any comments or links.
