"Taxi

[social_buttons]

Once upon a time, a young woman, oh let’s just call her Emily, was vintage shopping. She tried on garment after garment, in love with their colors, styles and worn appeal, yet nothing fit. She held handfuls of fabric behind her back, yanked hems up a couple inches, glared at long droopy sleeves and was saddened by puckered torsos. The girl, completely frustrated, left the store in a huff, dreaming of vintage items that couldn’t be bought.

There’s nothing quite as satisfying as finding that beautiful vintage item that no one else owns. However, it’s disappointing when it doesn’t fit quite right. Maybe it’s too long, the sleeves are too big or it’s shaped like a large square. Deborah Brosenne, owner of Taxi CDC, a.k.a. vintage re-constructor extraordinaire, excels in making vintage items new again by deconstructing and designing them into a perfect fit.

"TaxiI believe that most products have a second life. – Deborah Brosenne

Deborah Brosenne, co-founder of Triple Five Soul and Corrugated, certainly knows fashion. Thanks for her need of a change of scenery and a little less competitive world of fashion, Deborah moved to L.A. in 2001. While there, she began finding wonderful vintage goods and sold them to others. Deborah, my savior, frustrated that the clothes didn’t quite fit right, began her newest company Taxi CDC. Dealing with vendors who use purely recycled vintage clothing, mainly from the 80’s, Deborah’s one of a kind recycled items are a modern day knock out.

No stranger to alterations, Deborah, the oldest of eight children, was altering her siblings clothing before she was twelve. While attending Pratt in NY for architecture, she decided her true passion was in clothing design. Her and a friend founded Triple Five Soul, and soon after Deborah founded a Deconstructive Street Line called Corrugated. Corrugated’s store on the Lower East Side of New York, Corrugated Design Collective, was home to many new and aspiring artists, drawing attention from such magazines as Vogue.

Taxi CDC (reusing her previous store name-Corrugated Design Collective-CDC) still gets plenty of attention from the celebrities, but Deborah’s favorite customers are everyday people, like you and me. I just ordered my first dress from Taxi CDC and can’t wait to receive it. Not only has my garment-in-transit been around for over twenty years, I’m going to love it for twenty more.
