But inevitably the first snowy morning arrives to find me ankle-deep in powder, melted ice trickling down my arches as I attempt to clear the snow from my windshield. I realize if I&#8217;m going to make it to May pneumonia-free I&#8217;m going to need something a lot more substantial&#8211;some winter boots.<\/p>\n<p>A slick pair of boots\u00a0looks current with a knee length a-line skirt, smart under dress pants and fierce over your dark wash skinny jeans. They&#8217;re the ticket to keeping your feet warm and protected without looking unprofessional or, worse, like you&#8217;ve given up. But who makes a cool-looking, leather-free\u00a0sustainable pair?<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The answer is Simple.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/feelgoodstyle.com\/2008\/11\/11\/simple-shoes-green-feet-more-cool-eco-footprint-stories\/\" target=\"_blank\">Simple, a sustainable shoe company<\/a> out of California, makes shoes with progressive techniques and materials that include organic cotton, hemp, bamboo and repurposed tire treads. What&#8217;s more, the people at Simple are committed to\u00a0making ongoing improvements to\u00a0their sustainability. There is a rather\u00a0precious video on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simpleshoes.com\" target=\"_blank\">the website<\/a>,<a href=\"http:\/\/www.simpleshoes.com\" target=\"_blank\"><\/a> that describes how it all came to be.<\/p>\n<p>While there are a few great\u00a0styles in their Green Toe line, I chose the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simpleshoes.com\/ProductDetails.aspx?productID=9222&amp;categoryID=125&amp;g=w&amp;model=Toemale%20-%20Hemp\" target=\"_blank\">Toemale<\/a> boots\u00a0in chocolate. They are\u00a0soft and cozy but not bulky at all, and they stand up to snow\u00a0quite well&#8211;the water droplets bead right\u00a0up on the hemp upper\u00a0rather than soaking through. Of course none of this would mean a thing to me if they were plain or goofy-looking. I adore the coconut\u00a0button detailing and the little bamboo wedge heel. They are\u00a0refined enough for business-casual, but they\u00a0look just right with the skinny jeans too&#8211;decidedly cooler than their leather counterparts.
