Try this easy-peasy, two-ingredient, miracle DIY moisturizer to keep your skin silky-smooth this winter.

A word about DIY beauty products. The word is “efficient.” It can be frustrating to spend hours shopping for ingredients and a few more whipping up a batch of homemade fill-in-the-blank, only to find that your new concoction has failed OR that your child / husband / roommate refuses to use it due to smell / texture / taste.

I’ve been using my miracle DIY moisturizer for a few years now, and it’s especially effective during the colder months in the Midwest. I keep a little container of it on me and rub some into my dry hands or onto my lips when they start to feel especially parched.

The beauty of this DIY moisturizer is that it’s portable, non toxic, completely inoffensive to the other members of my family, and suitable for use on just about anything. Chapped lips on the four year-old? DIY moisturizer. Dry elbows for you? DIY moisturizer. Dealing with a blemish or some diaper rash*? DIY moisturizer. And here’s a little glamour for you: my fave use of the miracle DIY moisturizer is as a long-lasting lip gloss stand-in.

This is a base recipe and can be revised or enhanced based on your needs. You can add honey, vitamin E, vegetable glycerine, or any essential oil* of choice.

Materials & Supplies + 4 ounces oil of choice (I like coconut oil best)

+ .5 ounces organic beeswax (you could use candelilla wax, but you’ll need to adjust your ratio as you will only need about half as much)

+ double boiler + wooden spoon

+electric mixer

+ small glass jar with a lid (like a half-pint mason jar)

Directions

1. Melt the ingredients together in a double-boiler. Once the wax has completely melted and the mixture is a smooth liquid, pour into a large bowl. Beat with an electric mixer until creamy (this takes a very short amount of time, perhaps a minute or two to achieve maximum results).

2. Store in a jar with a tight-fitting lid.

*If using this mixture as a diaper rash cream or on your babies, please be sure to research and review best practices for safely using essential oils on children. I, myself, just leave them out.

Image credit: Coconut oil via Shutterstock.

Two-Ingredient Miracle DIY Moisturizer
