Of course men can support equal rights, equal pay, and equal treatment for all women! But our society still has a definition of manliness that often seems at odds with the basic goals of feminism.<\/p>\n<p>In the video below, Emma Watson speaks to the UN about male feminism:<\/p>\n<div id=\"g1-fluid-wrapper-counter-1\" class=\"g1-fluid-wrapper \" style=\"width:662px;\" data-g1-fluid-width=\"662\" data-g1-fluid-height=\"372\">\n<div class=\"g1-fluid-wrapper-inner\" style=\"padding-bottom:56.19335347432%;\">\n\t       <iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"662\" height=\"372\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/gkjW9PZBRfk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n\t       <\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Watson&#8217;s talk reminded me a bit of a piece that my friend Justin recently wrote over at Eat Drink Better about <a href=\"http:\/\/eatdrinkbetter.com\/2014\/07\/29\/thoughts-vegan-masculinity\/\" target=\"_blank\">vegan masculinity<\/a>. Like the feminist movement, the vegan movement may not seem like it has space for masculinity, but that depends on what you consider &#8220;manly.&#8221;\u00a0 And whether being &#8220;manly&#8221; is even something men need to worry about. In his piece, Justin doesn&#8217;t call for redefining manliness. He asks why we need to divide our culture into masculine and feminine in the first place. It&#8217;s a great read!<\/p>\n<p>The feminist movement has come a long way, but we also have a ways to go. Most women <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aauw.org\/research\/the-simple-truth-about-the-gender-pay-gap\/\" target=\"_blank\">still don&#8217;t earn equal pay for equal work<\/a>, and we certainly <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/paulina-pinsky-\/dont-blame-girls-for-thei_b_5435604.html\" target=\"_blank\">receive different treatment than men<\/a> in a lot of places.<\/p>\n<p>When celebrities like Emma Watson start speaking up on behalf of women, their message has a further reach then you or I speak up. I&#8217;m not saying that we should be silent, of course!
