Green wedding ideas abound these days. \u00a0From invitiations printed with soy ink on recycled paper to compostable wedding gowns. \u00a0Say what?! \u00a0Yes, this is now a thing. \u00a0It will definitely not be everyone\u2019s cup of tea but for those of you looking for a seriously eco gown for your big day, this may be right up your alley.<\/p>\n
Growable Gowns<\/strong><\/a> is the creation of Erin Smith, a grad student in New York University\u2019s Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) whose mission is to explore new ways to use communications technologies. One area of their work is repurposing and reusing items that outlive their usability. When Smith became engaged she developed the idea of Growable Gowns as a her thesis project.<\/p>\n Through Growable Gowns Smith constructs gowns of bacteria, fungi, and other biodegradable materials. After the wedding the gown can be used as fertilizer. This idea sounds crazy to many of us, but some super eco gals may be able to get behind the idea of a gown made from tree mulch and plant matter.<\/p>\n If you\u2019d rather your gown be made of more traditional materials but still want to go green try a recycled gown<\/strong><\/a> on for size. Or maybe someone in your family has one they\u2019d be glad to share.
