Artist Marcele Godoy is a Chilean graduate student studying here in the U.S., and he was appalled at the e-waste that was all around him:

Since I live in USA, I am surprised by how quickly multiple objects are considered garbage and you can easily find them on the streets every day. I have collected objects many times to reuse them in projects or for personal use. This is because they are generally discarded for a better, a nicer or a newer one, and not because its useful life is over.

Godoy decided that he wasn’t going to get mad – he’d get crafty! He created a line of recycled jewelry using e-waste that otherwise would have been landfill-bound. He says:

I started this project trying to find a new use for these items, rescuing and transforming many of them into an object that can be used in our daily life with a new meaning, now as an ornament and not as a secondary element.

The jewelry is not available for sale, as far as I can tell. Godoy calls it a “personal project,” and I love how it calls attention to the functionality of something that would otherwise go straight into the trash. He has a lovely slide show on his website showcasing the recycled jewelry that he created, though, and if you’re familiar with jewelry-making, it looks like something that you could recreate with basic wire-wrapping techniques just based on this beautiful photos.

You can see a couple of my favorite pieces at the top of this post, and view the complete slide show of the entire project on Godoy’s website.

Want more recycled jewelry goodness?
