Looking for shampoo brands that don’t test on animals? Look no further! These brands are free of animal testing and available in regular stores.

I’ve been talking quite a bit lately about vegan beauty supplies, and I got a great question that I wanted to share in this space:

I’m hung up on buying shampoo that doesn’t test on animals, but it’s getting hard to find in affordable places like CVS, Target, etc.

What I love about this question is that it highlights something about vegan beauty that can be a little bit tricky: many vegan brands aren’t so easy to find. I did a little bit of digging to find shampoo brands that don’t test on animals.

One important caveat: animal testing is only one component of vegan beauty. For a product to be truly vegan, it has to be free of animal products like beeswax and honey. The shampoo brands below don’t test on animals, but they may contain animal ingredients. The person who asked me this question is not vegan, so I looked for brands that specifically meet her needs.

Eschewing animal testing may not be the whole picture when it comes to cruelty in the beauty industry, but it is a big step in the right direction because animal testing is so cruel and unnecessary. In fact, animal testing doesn’t even do a great job of predicting product safety for humans.

Common Shampoo Brands that Don’t Use Animal Testing

I used Leaping Bunny’s list of non-animal-tested shampoos to make this list along with a little extra googling of my own. For companies that aren’t on the Leaping Bunny list, I relied on the company’s FAQ to see if they addressed the issue of animal testing.

To find out if any of these are totally vegan, I’d recommend contacting the company directly. The more emails they get from consumers concerned about animal ingredients, the more likely they will be to rethink their formulations!
