Originally posted on Crafting a Green World.

I love hair accessories, but sometimes it seems like everyone is wearing the same ones from big box stores! To avoid wearing the exact same accessories, I like to create my own accessories from vintage items that I find at thrift stores and garage sales. Not only are they unique, but repurposing items allows me to skip the impact of buying new. What items could you turn into a hair accessory? Go through your stash and choose items that you can revamp!

1. A hair pin of some sort. I used a bobby pin.

2. An earring, brooch, or botton. I used a vintage earring that I bought at a garage sale.

3. Hot glue/hot glue gun

4. Pliers and/or scissors

1. If you have an earring or brooch, you’ll need to remove the back piece. I used a combination of pliers and scissors to remove the back part of my earring.

2. With your hot glue gun, carefully glue the earring to the top of your hair pin. I glued mine to the end part of the pin, but the placement is up to you.

Can you believe that’s it? Now I have a one-of-a-kind hair pin that matches my style. I can’t wait to make more accessories like these DIY hair accessories, these that are made with recycled materials, and this awesome 5 minute headband! If you’re not up to making your own hair accessories, consider buying handmade ones from Etsy, like these adorable headbands from Lynn Minney.

Transform your old earrings, brooches, or vintage buttons into unique DIY hair accessories!
