Two Birds Apparel, a\u00a0Canadian Eco-Luxury<\/a>\u00a0brand, has launched their online storefront to meet the demand for ethical, locally-sourced, and fashionable apparel. \u201cThe recent factory collapse in Bangladesh really underscores the need for companies to consider what impact the products they sell have on a global society,\u201d said Daniel Andrew, Two Birds Apparel Co-Founder and an experienced sustainability consultant. The garment factory collapse in Dhaka, Bangladesh last month killed over 1,100 people, mainly young women. According to a survey by engineers in Bangladesh, three-fifths of Dhaka\u2019s garment factories are vulnerable to collapse. \u201cWe want to help consumers shift away from this idea of cheaply made, disposable clothing and consider the societal and environmental costs incurred in their production.\u201d<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Two Birds Apparel brand products are knit, dyed and sewn in Ontario. The company\u2019s mission is to promote local manufacturing, maintain safe working conditions and fair wages for garment industry workers, and reduce the carbon footprint of each product. One percent of each sale is donated to the David Suzuki Foundation<\/a> to advance research and awareness of environmental issues. Plus, a local bike courier company that employs at-risk youth is used for downtown Toronto deliveries.
