As if I needed another reason to love Urban Outfitters<\/a> (unique jewelry for 10 bucks, amirite?), now the mecca for fashionistas who are more Greenwich Village than Fifth Avenue just got greener. The company’s just-launched new label, Della, features clothing and accessories made entirely from sustainable vegan<\/a> materials. And each piece is handmade by underprivileged women in Ghana, who benefit by receiving skills training, access to education, and a living wage.<\/p>\n Using sustainable vegan materials not only protects the environment but also prevents cruelty to animals<\/a>. A PETA<\/a> undercover investigation into the leather<\/a> industry showed that cows and other animals who are killed for their skins have their throats cut and are often skinned and dismembered while they’re still conscious. I don’t know about you, but nothing about the phrase “skinned and dismembered while still conscious” makes me want to sling a leather bag across my body. And don’t even get me started on fur<\/a>. Animals\u2014even dogs and cats\u2014being skinned alive?
