Three years ago, when I first learned about the potential for harm posed by so many of my favorite beauty products, I ran straight to the nearest Whole Foods, without a nanosecond of hesitation, and purchased all new shampoo, conditioner, makeup, and even anti-aging products. The one thing I just couldn’t bring myself to give up, however, was my hair color. Embarrassing, yes. Shameful enough to make me stop using toxic hair color? Just sort of. About every 6 or 7 months I would cave and purchase Cancer In A Box – the Medium Ash Blond variety – in a desperate attempt to cling to my youth. My ambivalence manifested itself in an unfortunate, inconsistent blend of blond, amber, brown, and grey hair.
Until now, that is! This past Sunday, I finally talked myself into giving Palette By Nature – the latest advance in 100% natural hair color technology – a genuine test drive. Rather than some wimpy little strand test, I did the whole head treatment; the Full Monty, as it were, of hair color. I even took before and after photos, so that I could share my experience – positive or otherwise – with all of you. Curious as to how it all turned out?
Well, what do you think? OK, I’ll be honest again – I almost don’t care what you think, because I LOVE it! The performance of this hair color system far exceeded my expectations. Although my hair is darker than what I am used to (you can’t lighten hair with Palette By Nature), it has a rich, even tone, covered my grays even better than the commercial stuff I was using before, and was so easy to use! Not to mention, it smelled great, unlike the toxic fumes of death I put up with before.
I suppose I should say something about the hair color itself. It’s 100% Natural. Really, truly, 100% natural! It goes beyond henna, using cutting edge dye technology, developed by one of Aveda’s former lead color chemists. It comes in a wide range of hair color options, including a Grey Blending System for those of you who want to easily and gradually transition from grey to your (let’s call it) true hair color.
I cannot emphasize enough the extent to which Palette By Nature will answer the prayers of women who a) have developed allergic reactions to PPD, b) want to avoid PPD and other known toxins lurking in commercial hair color, and/or c) are interested in gorgeous, rich, healthy hair.
