Organic Style: Affordable Handmade Clothing from Velvet Leaf

organic cotton dress

Etsy seller Velvet Leaf creates beautiful organic clothing that’s totally budget-friendly!

I am not usually one to splurge on brand new clothing, but since I’ve been pregnant, I’ve indulged in a few purchases to flesh out my wardrobe. Of course, some of the stuff I’ve bought is maternity clothing, but I am not crazy about maternity clothes in general. You wear them for six months maybe, and then they’re useless! Boo on that!

Over Christmas I was perusing Etsy for clothes that would work with my pregnant belly but also be cute after this baby comes, and babydoll dresses seemed perfect! The waist is high enough that my bump is underneath, and the flouncy skirt has plenty of room for this belly to grow.

Velvet Leaf

I’d purchased from Velvet Leaf before and even posted here about the organic cotton tops that I ordered from them back in April. Those tank tops have become staple pieces in my wardrobe, so when I saw that Velvet Leaf offered babydoll dresses, I took the plunge.

Like the tank tops, the dress I ordered – the Bridget – is made from organic cotton jersey fabric, and the construction is flawless. It’s also got a cute sailor-style bow in front and a hood! I ordered mine in royal blue, and it came within a week. She creates each piece to order, so a week is super fast to create, pack, and ship a product by hand!

I just checked her shop, and it looks like she hasn’t relisted the Bridget as of this writing, but she has a couple of other super adorable organic dresses: the Emma babydoll with lovely tiered sleeves and the Florence organic shift that has an awesome bow detail at the neck.

Really, I can’t recommend this shop enough. On top of her handmade, organic clothing, she has a huge selection of vintage finds from every era you can imagine. Her vintage finds are branded Black Sheep, and the organic line is Velvet Leaf, which was a little bit confusing for me at first since it’s all in the same shop, but you can use the shop sections and search function to find what you’re looking for pretty quickly. It’s an awesome one-stop online shop for sustainable fashion! Check out Black Sheep and Velvet Leaf right here!
