Livia Firth Goes Vintage Times 11 in Upcycled Oscars Dress

Well, Natalie Portman was not the only gal to go green at the Oscar festivities this year.  It seems Academy-award winner Colin Firth’s wife, Livia, was clad in an eco-friendly gown and jewels for the Oscar event.

Livia Firth, along with pal Lucy Siegle, chronicled her dressing up eco-style in their Vogue diary The Green Carpet Challenge.  Lucy Siegle is currently writing a book entitled To Die For on the “state of the fashion industry and its enormous footprint”.  That will go on our must read list.

For now, back to The Green Carpet Challenge.  Ok, so as creative director and co-owner of Eco Age (green living consulting firm and retail shop), Mrs. Firth has definitely done her homework on the subject.  The Challenge chronicles her carpet walks in one eco-friendly ensemble after another.  Some better than others.  As, Lucy puts it, they did indeed make a couple of worst-dressed lists.

As for Oscar night, Livia Firth was gorgeous.  Gorgeous dress, gorgeous jewels, and her hair…lovely.  The gown itself was dreamed up by designer Gary Harvey from 11 different gowns sourced from vintage shops.  Pretty cool!  While some grumbled that cutting up several perfectly fine vintage pieces was not very eco at all, I have only one qualm.  Why did she not go all the way and use green makeup as well?  There are so many great choices out there for safe, natural makeup that this one seems like a no-brainer.  Oh well, if you’d like help for next event…let me know;)
