Coffee is a wonderful thing. It gets us going in the morning, tastes delicious, can be used as a beauty treatment, and even holds health benefits. If you are a fellow coffee lover you too have most likely tried several brands, roasts and flavors of coffee. To a true coffee enthusiast, good coffee is like fine wine.
Finding the best-tasting coffee is important, but we also want to be sure that the people growing and producing our coffee beans are treated well and make a fair wage. Let’s face it, we are not growing coffee beans in our back yards here in the US, so local is out of the picture. Many coffee bean growers and their workers are making less than livable wages and doing so under less than desirable conditions.
Enter La Colombe Torrefaction. This one popped onto my radar while reading Leonardo DiCaprio’s website, LeonardoDiCaprio.com. Leo has partnered with La Colombe, roasters of fine coffees (all earth conscious and ethically produced), to bring us LYON. 100% of all profits from LYON coffee are donated to environmental charities supported by The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation.
Sustainable coffee – specifically, coffee that is traded above fair prices and grown using earth conscious methods – not only adds much needed global biodiversity, but provides support for millions of families and communities in the developing world. The impact we are having in Haiti alone, just to bring this coffee to market, has changed the lives of thousands of peasant farmers, as well as the landscape of the country. — Todd Carmichael, CEO and Co-Founder of La Colombe
LYON is USDA Certified Organic so no harmful toxins were used in its production – better for the drinker and the producer. And guess what? It’s also super smooth and delicious. Yes, I had to try it out for myself.
