Green Beauty Fakers

medicine cabinet

We talked not too long ago about the Skin Deep Database as an excellent resource for discovering just how eco-friendly and healthy beauty products are. It looks like the Organic Consumers Association has taken things a step further, using the database to call out big name “green” beauty brands that could use a bit of work. Jennifer Chait at Green Options says:

The Organic Consumers Association just released a new spreadsheet doc summarizing "Organic Cheater brand" products and their Hazard Rankings according to the Environmental Working Group’s "Skin Deep" Cosmetic Safety Database.

The document is a simple Google spreadsheet, organized by brand. Check out the Organic Cheater Brand spreadsheet for deets. I was pretty shocked that brands like JASON, who I regarded pretty highly, scored in the yellow and red.

Of course, you can always ditch the store-bought cosmetics all together in favor of home made beauty supplies!

Are any of the brands that you favor on this list?
