It’s well known to anyone who reads my work or knows me personally that I have a penchant for organic, biodynamic and natural beauty products that have killer aesthetic. At the end of the day though, looks aren’t everything and what’s more important is … does it work? Great beauty products come in a variety of guises and while not representative of the most striking design, nonetheless these beauties are tried, tested and have no trouble making the cut for some of the best beauty products for under $10
1. Raw, organic coconut oil: The virtues of this miracle oil are just about endless. Containing 50% lauric acid, a rare medium chain fatty acid found in mother’s milk, coconut oil is now being studied for its’ anti-fungal, anti-viral, and anti-bacterial properties. Not to mention it’s 92% saturated fat – need we explain the emollient qualities? Savvy island ladies have been using it for centuries but we use it for: cuticle and nail conditioning, body oil, hair treatment, wound healing, skin moisturizing, eating, cooking, drinking. Every household should have a tub!
2. Alima Satin Matte Eyeshadow: Move over MAC. The only BDIH certified natural mineral makeup brand that’s 100% pure minerals and nothing else. These babies are loaded with color pigment so a little goes a long way, the color glides on like silk & stays put, and best of all you can use them wet or dry, on brows, lids or as liner. Aloe Vera Plant: With more than 160 active ingredients such as vitamins A, B, C and E, minerals, amino acids, enzymes and polysaccharides, there is no other plant that we know of that contains more regenerative bioactives than Aloe Vera. Not only can the plant live without water for literally months (awesome for all you non-green thumb girls!) it heals and regenerates itself (plus you) whenever you cut a piece off to use. Make a slit in the plant leaf, out seeps a kind of gel – use it once a week all over your face. Mmmmmmmm … skin food.
4. Deep Steep Moisture Sticks: Cuticles killing you? Killer heels got your feet worn out? Want glossy lips without looking tacky? Elbows cracking in the heat? 5. Zoya Nail Polish: It used to be rare but is increasingly the norm that phthalate, formaldehyde and toluene free nail polish is now the savvy choice for pretty nails. There are several brands available such as Priti and Spa Ritual but our favorite hands down is Zoya. Long wearing & loads of fashion forward colors to choose from, it was just voted ‘Longest Wearing Nail Polish’ by a panel of 48 beauty pros.
