Body image is an ever-present topic of conversation here on this site and in life. The pressure to be thin, look younger, and conform to the idealized image of what a woman should look like is practically inescapable. This infographic, via Visual.ly, brings to light some disturbing facts about how women (and young girls!) perceive their bodies. Even more startling is the idea that girls as young as 3 have body image issues! While we can’t fully escape advertisements and media-imposed scrutiny, we can work to build up each other and support one another in this seemingly on-going battle.
Are you startled by any of the facts and figures presented in the infographic? What are some ways that we can try and combat the ideas of what an ideal woman should be and look like? What are some things we can do in our daily lives to help other women (and ourselves) realize that we are all beautiful in every shape and form? I would love to hear your thoughts and opinions on this; feel free to leave any comments, questions or links!
