5. Update a Vintage Chandelier

Light fixtures can dramatically change the mood in a room, but new fixtures can be pricey and come with a hefty carbon footprint. Boo! This is another area where a bit of thrift shopping and a coat of paint can work wonders. The trickiest part when you’re updating light fixtures is actually swapping out the fixture itself. I recommend bribing a friend to help you with the promise of pizza and beer. Just remember to turn off the circuit breaker to the room you’re working in before you start replacing the fixture, so no one gets zapped!
