CLEAN WATER IS LIFE

HAPPY EARTH DAY from AVEDA 2008 EARTH MONTH: CLEAN WATER IS LIFEcleanwaterislife.jpgAveda Seeks to Raise $2.3 Million this month for Clean Water Rights Globally. Aveda’s fundraising goal for 2008 is to raise this amount or more during the month of April for global and local organizations working to support and preserve clean water. Last year they raised well above the goal and we are hoping it happens again!Specifically the Aveda Clean Water Is Life targeted plans are:

  • a project in Brazil focused  on an effort to aid in the development of sustainable water systems, medicinal gardens and natural healing education, and the prevention of illegal fishing and logging on indigenous lands.
  • work in Bulgaria to train and provide resources for local farmers in to convert to organic farming.
  • efforts in India for the building of sustainable water systems in nine villages, where youth will be trained in hand pump wells.
  • help in South Africa to help protect local communities from high levels of uranium discharge in drinking water supply from a mine upstream.

Aveda is proud to set an example for environmental leadership and responsibility as this campaign  continues for clean water in an effort to make a sustainable positive impact on our planet through the organization. For the second year now, Aveda has joined together with Global Greengrants Fund as their global Earth Month partner. The GGF is to provide grants for community-based water projects around the world. These efforts highlight a special focus on regions where Aveda sources ingredients, working closer toward their sustainability mission.Aveda will help fund this effort with local campaigns to support regional partners. Until the end of April the company will hold fundraising events that directly support a local partner working to support clean water. This is what they call LOCAL ACTIONS. LOCAL RESULTS. which shines on global-scale Earth Month projects by empowering Aveda’s network of Salons, Spas, Experience Centers and Institutes. One such example is this Earth Day Light the Way Candle that the network branches and members are asked to light and hold candlelit gatherings where the participants discuss sustainability principles and healthy steps to take in every day life.image003.jpg

LIMITED EDITION CANDLE. Aveda’s 2008 Earth Month campaign also includes the launch of a limited edition Light the Way™ soy wax candle, made with an aroma of certified organic Bulgarian lavender oil. By purchasing the $10 Earth Month candle, consumers will support Aveda’s donation of $700,000 to Global Greengrants Fund as part of its global efforts to help make clean water a human right and to support of grassroots clean water projects for those people most in need.
