We all know how it is. We begin January with new dedication, a bent toward finally getting healthy – eating right, exercising right and focusing on wellness and healing in our lives, alongside everything else we have to do. We’re sure we have the time, the dedication and the focus to finally make it last. And, come February or March, we all know how it feels when we realize that our routine is quickly slipping away from us, and we just don’t have time for our commitment to our body anymore. We start surviving again, and we stop making time for ourselves to find wellness.
Or maybe I’m alone in this.
If you’re anything like me, you do much better if your commitments and resolutions are in some way accountable to a group, coach or mentor. In my work as a female business owner, I’ve found it necessary to have a therapist, a group I meet with weekly and a life coach. And, I don’t think I could possibly do what I do without all three.
Why should it be any different with our health?
Here’s five places to start:
1. Get inspired
WELL in L.A. is one of my absolute favorite sites for health inspiration. Erin is a full-time writer, designer and wellness lover who writes for The Well Daily, The Daily Love, The Daily Muse and The Style Network, among other places. She works with wellness and lifestyle brands to develop their business and brand, loves all things wellness and has been reading books on the topic of nutrition since the age of 16. If you’re looking for inspiration and a place to get connected, Erin would certainly be a fantastic place to start.
2. Make a desire map
Danielle LaPorte provides The Desire Map, an online guide and book to working backwards from your desired emotional, physical and professional life. After running a future studies think tank in Washington DC, and starting her own communications company, LaPorte started her own consulting and coaching brand. Catch a glimpse of the Desire Map contents here.
3. Take a challenge
Jennifer Jordan is doing a Resolution Challenge through her site Everyday Glow. Jennifer is a fantastic peson I’ve been lucky enough to become e-friends with, and is also a certified nutritionist who holds over a decade of experience in the fitness industry as a personal trainer, group x instructor and fitness research enthusiast.
4. Get a coach
If you’re needing personal training this year, and you’re in Los Angeles, check out Monica Nelson. She has a primary focus on HIT, or High-Intensity Training, and works with clients privately for just 1-2 hours a week.
5. Join a class
If you live somewhere cold like I do, just getting up the courage to face the wind and snow can keep you from a workout. Good news! You don’t have to leave your house. Mary Beth Larue is a yoga instructor offering classes in Los Angeles and online at Yogis Anonymous. (Pssst…you can also find over 800 other online yoga classes for $15/month – keep up your yoga without ever leaving your pad!).
How do you plan on keeping your wellness resolutions this year?
