Healthy Habits for Holidays by Shandi-lee at Flickr.com, cc

It’s pretty easy to load up on yummy treats this season. All of the delicious morsels on display at the grocery store, tasty samples in foodie shops, not to mention peppermint mocha coffee.

And I’m not one to pass on a good thing. How about you?

We don’t have to! If we keep things balanced and stick with healthy habits we can indulge and not outgrow our jeans in the next month. And, yes, there are better (and healthier) ways to do this than skipping lunch every day.

4 Feelgood Healthy Habits for the Holidays:

Keep it interesting – You know I’m going there…exercise. Adding in just a bit of extra exercise will help to keep you fit and feeling great straight through New Year’s. My favorite place to find juicy ideas on ways to add more oomph to my workout is on Pinterest. Follow our Healthy Habits board for some inspiration. Keep caffeine on the dl – I know your stressed, tired, and just plain burnt out by mid-December. But an extra coffee or soda is only going to make you more susceptible to eating junk. Trust me on this, my coffee habit could rival Juan Valdez.

Keep with a healthy diet – As hard as it may be, sticking with your usual healthful eating habits is the best way to ward off overeating and midday nibbles. Plus, if you are full of healthy stuff, a smaller treat will satisfy.  Want to go healthy for the holiday meal this year?  Eat Drink Better has come up with a vegan holiday recipe guide.

Keep the balance – There will be days where you can’t help but go overboard. A company party, family gathering, or girls night out means party drinks, loaded carbs, and delectable desserts. This is where balance comes in. Reel it in and go for clean eating the day or two after a binge out.
