2. Take a Beat to Combat Eye Strain
If you have any kind of desk job, chances are you look at screens for a big part of your day. Then, maybe you head home, make supper, and then relax in front of the TV or computer – more screens! – before getting ready for bed. All of that screen time can be tough on our bodies, and it can cause eye strain headaches. Here are some ways to treat eye strain:
- Step Away – Get up and go for a short walk. You don’t have to go far or be gone long. Take 5-10 minutes every couple of hours to rest your eyes. You can walk around the block, head to the break room for some tea,
- Focus – When you’re looking at screens or reading for hours at a time, you’re focusing your eyes at a specific distance. It’s exhausting for your eye muscles, so when an eye strain headache starts to creep up on you, try taking a few minutes to focus on something far away. Even just looking across the room can help, but if you can get to a window or go outside, the further off you can focus the better!
- Light it Up – I know, your mom probably nagged you about watching TV in the dark or reading by dim lamp light, but she was right! You don’t have to turn on every light in the room, but make sure you do have some good lighting to offset the glow of the screen. You can also turn down your screen’s brightness – this can help with eyestrain and makes your computer use less energy. A double win!
