Nutritionist Journey, Day 5 with Rise App

Nutritionist Day 5

As mentioned earlier this week, I am touring the new Rise app. It’s an iPhone app that connects you with a nutritionist in order to help you meet a health goal.

Let’s take a peek at my experience so far.

So, I began using Rise on Monday. You upload photos of each meal and snack along with a description of what you ate. The photos are important because of portion size. It is difficult for me to remember to take the pics before I eat but I’m getting better at it.

Even though I know how to eat pretty healthfully, Anar, my nutritionist, has given me some suggestions that really help. For instance, one healthy fat per meal is adequate and there is such a thing as 5% half and half. Who knew?!

Unfortunately, this week I’ve eaten out more than usual. Which has been an eye opener. Of course I know that a Panera cinnamon roll is not a healthy breakfast choice and I don’t usually eat this type of thing. But did you know that one of those babies has 630 calories, 24 grams of fat, and a whopping 35 grams of sugar? I only ate half but, if you break it down, that is still a heck of a lot of fat and sugar. Anar suggested the egg white, spinach, and avocado on sprouted bagel sandwich with 22 grams of protein and only 5 grams of sugar. Much better way to start your day if you are going out for breakfast.

Rise is also good motivation for eating less, I’ve found. Not sure if this is due to the accountability factor or sheer laziness over having to post everything eaten, but it’s working.

Have you tried Rise yet? Remember you get to use our special code RISEGK8 for a free trial subscription with your own nutritionist. If you’ve already signed up, please share your experience with Rise in the comments. If not, what are you waiting for?
