Avoiding the Freshman 15

avoiding the freshman 15

Happy summer! The sunshine is out and ready to encourage us on all of our seasonal endeavors. From finishing those never-ending projects to taking some R&R time, exercise and health are sometimes forced to take the backseat on our to-do lists.

Give yourself a little pinch and let’s get started! That dang Freshman 15 is a common enemy of all college girls, so why not get a head start at preventing it? Avoiding the Freshman 15 may be a lot easier than you think. Being low stress, summer is the perfect time to try out different eating and exercising routines to find out which is the best for you.

At the crossroads of summer, we have the opportunity to choose from two philosophies:

1) Go YOLO this summer and fix it in the fall

2) Ease into the healthy lifestyle your destiny is begging you into

Which will you choose?

But really, take advantage of summer! Use this as transition time; it’ll be one less thing to think about when the craziness of college takes over.

Work with your summer routine, not against it. Whether you’re working or studying or just taking things slow, get into the habit of eating at the same times every day. That way, when school starts and things get hectic, adjusting to late nights and early wake-ups will be that much easier.

Find an exercise buddy! Someone who has your same goals and intentions can boost your ego and share your struggles. Nobody said your journey to health couldn’t be a social outing, too!

Find your personal inspiration. Is it prancing through a grassy field? How about painting on the beach? While it is great to go through the actions of dieting and exercising, everything comes from the inside. If your heart and mind are in the right state of being, you can convince yourself to do almost anything.

Take hold of that inspiration and let it lead you to great places this summer!
