Keep Hunger at Bay with Millies Savory Teas

Millies Savory Teas - Review

I believe it was that great philosopher, The Incredible Hulk, who once said, “You won’t like me when I’m angry.” While my even-tempered disposition tends to safely stay in the Bruce Banner realm, there’s one time of day when irritability can get the best of me – when I’m hungry. I know I’m not alone in that. There’s a reason why the word “hangry” has become a well-known descriptor for that time when being hungry merges with being angry… Then just wait for the green skin to appear and for my dress pants to become shorts.

The time when the Hulk is hardest to keep under wraps is while making dinner. I don’t want to eat a snack that will ruin my appetite, but I also need something to quiet my grumbling stomach, so that I can focus on chopping and sautéing.

Then recently I was introduced to Millies Savory Teas via a review on Vegan Crunk. Once I heard about these “sipping broths,” I had to try them out for myself. Instead of being your typical tea, they come in flavors like Tomato Basil, Indian Spice, Thai Lemongrass, Spicy Tortilla, Smoky Facon, and Snappy Butternut.

The tea is made by just pouring hot water over a tea bag in a cup and giving it time to steep. The teas have a bit of green tea in them, but the overwhelming flavor is of broth. The soothing soup-style drinks sate my hunger and make it easier to wait until dinner is ready.  Plus, each cup of tea is only about 20 calories, and so it doesn’t cut into my regular meal.

The teas can be purchased individually or in packs on the Millies Savory Tea website. I chose the Five Flavor Snack Pack, so that I could sample a variety of the flavors. My favorites are the Tomato Basil, Spicy Tortilla, and Smoky Facon (short for “fake bacon”). All of the flavors are gluten free and vegan.
