Combating Fast Fashion: Zady

Recently, a new online shopping experience launched at zady.com, offering high quality, stylish clothes for women, men, as well as gifts and home goods. Zady offers “Origins”, a map that outlines where their carefully curated collection comes from around the world. They seek to support artisans, fair trade principles, and heritage, including locally sourced goods, made in USA credentials, handmade and sustainable goods.

Co-founders  and friends, Maxine Bédat and Soraya Darabi want to combat fast fashion and help fashion lovers to buy better rather than more. “We should not be compelled to accept throwaway goods as a way of life; we can instead take pride in the style and integrity of each and every piece we own.” – zady.com . Zady invites customers to learn more about their unique motivation in their personal letter titled, “Why Zady?”

What else makes Zady different? They’ve partnered with the nonprofit, The Bootstrap Project so that with every purchase made on Zady, an artisan launching a micro-business in the developing world is provided with the critical investment funds they need to grow their business and support their traditions, protecting local economies and promoting design techniques that have taken hundreds of years to develop.
