I recently had the opportunity to sit down with the founders of this fast-growing environmental campaign to learn a little more about the ideas behind their movement.
After years of negative press and attention regarding the environment, this group of young adults is finally speaking up, calling everyone to action by urging them to celebrate Mother Earth.
Founded in 2011, this movement is already gaining steam as they aim to unify environmental supporters by imploring them to express positive and constructive sentiments about how to better the world. Positivity breeds positivity, and rather than lamenting the destruction of our environment, these young adults are encouraging us to carry mother Earth with us wherever we go.
Heart Your Mother makes this possible by providing handmade, eco-friendly jewelry that contains a capsule carrying a piece of mother nature: dried flower petals, sand, soil, and moss. The contents of each capsule are natural and biodegradable. Their jewelry designs are unisex, and the founders are in the process of adding many more designs, including necklaces.
While the Heart Your Mother founders are eager to discuss their handmade jewelry, they’re also quick to remind us that the idea is for people to become more appreciative of Mother Nature and always remember their connection to the Earth. Don’t you love this idea? It’s all about living your beliefs and teaching by example. If a handful of people embrace this connection and make environmentally an sound decision, like riding a bike over driving a car, they’re showing that eco-friendly choices are simple and fun, and hopefully spreading the word through their actions.
The folks at Heart Your Mother are truly interested in a unified movement, priding themselves on the fact that environmental supporters exist in all shapes and sizes. They encourage everyone who buys a piece of their jewelry to take a picture wearing the piece and email the picture to Heart Your Mother so that it they can share it on their website and Facebook page.
In their effort to promote awareness, they have also partnered with the Nature Conservancy’s Plant a Billion Trees effort. Each item you purchase from Heart Your Mother plants a tree in the Atlantic Forest.
