30 Day Challenge: Going No ‘Poo and Toxins in Cosmetics

It’s been almost a full week of going no poo and I must say that I enjoy the way that it makes my hair feel. I feel like my hair is still balancing itself out. It’s still a little bit more oily than I would like it to be, but I already feel like it’s worth it. Once you read the labels of your favorite over the counter products, you start to realize that you can take an oily head over some of the ingredients present.

The Story of Cosmetics is a short film that was released to tell “the ugly truth of toxics in, toxics out.” It’s important to know what you are putting in your body, but it’s just as important to know what you are putting on the outside of your body as well. The Story of Cosmetics also worked closely in conjunction with the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics. This campaign launched in 2004 and works to protect consumers and workers by working to eliminate the toxic chemicals that are used in the beauty industry.

Going no ‘poo is a personal choice. I can be the first to admit that I am a little vain when it comes to my hair. I, for a long time, turned a blind eye to the unsafe and toxic side of the beauty industry. Now, after doing more research I realize that the perfect hair do or shade of red lipstick isn’t worth the risk it poses to my health. I hope that you will check out this video and the links to become even more informed about what you may be using on your body.

Have you gone no ‘poo for this reason? Have you watched this video? What did you think? Has it changed the choices that you’ve made when it comes to your cosmetic products? I would love to hear what you think about this subject and what different choices you may have made because of it.
